SELECTED PROJECT PROFILES

ADVANCED DATA ENCRYPTION
AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS
ALZHEIMER'S THERAPIES

COMPLETED

This project centered on a patented method to prevent unauthorized access to digital communications by encrypting and sequencing the flow of packetized data.

CURRENT

I am actively involved with a proprietary agricultural algaecide-bactericide that effectively controls aerobic & anaerobic bacteria and their resultant gases, in a variety of applications and settings.

PENDING

My work is focused on several R&D efforts that show promise for more effective treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

In this project I:

  • Co-authored U.S. patent
  • Participated in proof of concept bench testings at a leading U.S. research university
  • Negotiated several private placement stock transfers

Communication signals are used widely in many different or interrelated fields, such as credit card authorization systems, cellular telephone and radio communications, satellite transmissions, telephone calls, computer networks and modem connections, automated teller machine transmissions, financial and banking transactions, direct broadcast television, garage door openers, automobile remote devices and the like.

For this project, I have been active in the following ways:

  • Held an exclusive distributor (in greater China);
  • Negotiated purchase agreement with China’s Ministry of Agriculture at Beijing;
  • Presently I am developing an exclusive EU distributorship.

    Death or injury to humans from manure gas exposure are very real dangers, and has significantly risen in the past few years. Hydrogen sulphide is most responsible for the vast majority of deaths: one breath of hydrogen sulphide gas is lethal at concentrations above 1,000 ppm, (which is a level less than that present during agitation when the manure jet breaks the surface and values of 1,600 to 1,700 ppm are often reached.) Not only is this a dangerous and most noxious problem for humans, but the health of animals themselves is affected. Consequently, grow out rates are slowed and weight gains lower.

Presently, I am a research consultant to a capital group interested in advancing select Alzheimer R&D programs and early detection methods, including advanced diagnostics, non-invasive measurements of cerebral blood supply, and research into ultrasound frequencies to eliminate amyloid plaque from the brain.

Alzheimer’s Disease is an incurable, degenerative terminal disease generally diagnosed in people over 65, although early onset can occur. Alzheimer’s is fast becoming more prevalent worldwide as the baby-boom generation advances into its senior years, but there is no conclusive, noninvasive way to diagnose it in patients, especially at its early stages.

AQUACULTURE PLATFPORMS
AUDITORY TECHNOLOGIES
AUTOMOTIVE LUBRICANT

CURRENT

This project involves two aquaculture technology platforms, and an adjunct hydrolyzed protein processing system.

PENDING

We are presently designing a patient fund to provide cutting-edge hearing devices to children and young adults from families unable to afford them.

COMPLETED

This project focused on a high-temperature and high-pressure lubricant that greatly reduced cold-engine friction, extending engine useful life by reducing wear from normal engine use.

One aquaculture technology selected was an automated, centralized computer control and monitoring system that managed all parameters needed for fast, reliable and controlled grow out.  The other is an ocean submersible sphere,  now under design review.

My involvement in this project has consisted of several key areas, including

  • Conducting market analyses & strategic planning to build aquaculture operations to produce hybrid stripe bass, yellow perch and puffer fish at Chicago, Vancouver and Melbourne, Australia;
  • Conceptually designing a hybrid production platform to include processing system transform viscera into human-grade proteins;
  • Developing conceptual design and strategic  planning for a submersible ocean platform to grow ahi tuna.

The auxiliary system was designed to yield human-grade hydrolyzed proteins, both for ingestion and for use in accelerating laboratory culture growth. The targeted species was yellow perch (Perca flavescens). A similar system had been designed to raise puffer fish (Tetraodontidae). The edible portions of this dangerous species–cultivated and prepared by master chefs–were intended for the Japanese market, while the toxin was to be harvested for use in a proprietary non-opioid serum.

My present role is as a project design consultant to a capital fund intending to enter this philanthropic area.

Some experts believe that children should have cochlear implants as early as possible if they cannot benefit from hearing aids. Better speech perception and performance with longer and earlier use of an implant is probably linked to the effect that cochlear implants have on the developing auditory nervous system. Basic research has shown that the nerve cells involved in the auditory system require early and constant stimulation in order to develop important connections and patterns of activation necessary for speech perception. while children continue to improve over a period of years.

My involvement in this project included:

  • Holding an exclusive distributorship in Greater China for this US-produced engine lubricant;
  • Negotiating a multi-year sales agreement for its use in all new tractors and newer model tractors produced at the Luoyang No. 1 Tractor Factory in Henan Province (birth place of “Dongfanghong” tractor), as authorized by the Henan Provincial government.

This engine lubricant included molybdenum, which under conditions of high-temperature and high-pressure during engine operation, bonded a long-lasting coating on engine interior metal surfaces, greatly reducing cold-engine friction and extending engine useful life by reducing wear from normal engine use.

CANCER NUTRACEUTICAL
CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE
HUMAN NUTRITION

PENDING

The fruit of a tree native to only one region of northern Australia has demonstrated promise in dissolving tumors.

CURRENT

Currently, I am designing a method and apparatus to better manage peripheral and pulmonary edema in people with (CHF) congestive heart failure.

PENDING

The focus here is the production and distribution of nutritional supplements for children in the developing world suffering from acute malnutrition.

My focus is in: (a) R&D sponsorship to synthesize the molecular structure of a serum which has shown the capability to eliminate tumors; (b) clinical trials for the base serum and derivatives; and (c) establishing a fund for cancer patients across the globe to access treatment.

Scientists have isolated a chemical from the berry of an Australian plant endemic only to one region of Australia and have demonstrated promising early results regarding the compound’s ability to destroy tumors in mice, cats, dogs, and horses through direct injections. Clinical trials are currently underway for its use in animals and humans.

Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells can divide and spread to and destroy nearby tissue. It can arise in many parts of the body and can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. Every sixth death in the world is due to cancer, making it the second leading cause of death (second only to cardiovascular diseases).

Currently I am designing a robust, comprehensive & interactive remote monitoring and dosing system platform (with Bluetooth capabilities) that has potential to improve palliative care of CHF patients and to reduce hospital recidivism rates (and their consequent costs) significantly.

CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE (CHF) is a killer disease where life expectancy for those diagnosed is less than 5 years. CHF is a specific stage of heart failure in which fluid collects around the heart and thereby puts it under considerably increased pressure, causing it to pump inadequately. We are presently working with an international team of leading cardiologists, biomedical engineers and technologists, IT engineers and others on a unique technology convergence that has great potential to improve physician-patient interaction to monitor and to control pulmonary and peripheral edema, to reduce hospital recidivism, and most important of all, to improve patient well-being.

Presently I am a project consultant to a funding group interested in developing nutrition programs in selected regions.

Children who fall under the cut-off for severe acute malnutrition need to receive an adapted diet that allows them to regain normal nutritional status. One nutrient source, a derivative of peanuts, is capable of providing the same nutritional value (but without the same use constraints) of therapeutic milk. This proprietary product is well-adapted to the needs of severely acute malnourished children. Additionally, there is need for nutrient supplements for children who are lactose intolerant or allergic to peanuts.

HYDROCARBON REMEDIATION
HYDROGEL DISINFECTION
HYDROVASCULAR DIAGNOSTICS

COMPLETED

This project focused on an eco-friendly and cost-effective bioremediation agent capable of rapid degradation of oil spills.

COMPLETED

A project to develop a high-intensity, high-frequency microwave pulse irradiation appliance that would destroy pathogens on the surface of contact lenses.

COMPLETED

My work was focused on extending a hydrovascular diagnostic technology to additional areas including obstetrics, ophthalmic applications and human exercise physiology.

I led a self-initiated project development effort that included::

  • Negotiating/conducting several field tests & bioassays at select Starbucks Coffee Chicago-area facilities;
  • Sponsoring design & build of a prototype  automated dispensing  device;
  • Arranging for and sponsoring its field testing at an established restaurant at Hong Kong.

This EPA and Coast Guard-approved granular material consists of bio-nutrients that are used to: (a)  dissolve hydrocarbons (in water/ soil, residential and municipal wastewater); (b) eliminate fats, oils and grease in grease traps; and (c) inhibit the production of ammonia gas in animal bedding. In its application to oil spills, this agent biochemically draws bacteria (which digest hydrocarbons) into an oil matrix, and then stimulates rapid bacterial growth with the bionutrients. The consequent exponential growth in bacteria rapidly reduces an oil slick, as  bacteria digest hydrocarbon molecules for energy, which in turn brings about rapid degradation of an oil slick within a matter of days, leaving only trace elements of water and fatty solids.

I initiated an R&D project and led a team of experts (in electrical engineering and optometry)  to develop commercial and patient devices to disinfect contact lenses. The core feature was a high-intensity, high-frequency microwave pulse irradiation technology that would destroy pathogens on the surface of contact lenses quickly and completely, without harming the hydrogel material of the contact lenses themselves.

Contact lenses can expose users to some serious vision risks, especially for those who don’t carefully follow lens care protocols. For example, keratitis (the most common infection related to contact use) causes inflammation and irritation of the eye’s cornea, which can lead to vision loss and blindness if not treated correctly. Bacteria known to cause serious eye infections can survive in contact lens solutions much longer than previously thought: one strain of bacteria—which happens to cause the most severe cases of keratitis—can survive in lens solution for more than four hours. An effective means to eliminate these contaminants was the primary goal.

The immediate objective was to reconstitute a floundering medical services company by reorganizing, funding and then re-starting its diagnostic operations in nursing home and long-term care settings.

Additionally, my focus was to broaden the scope of hydrovascular diagnostic applications to other areas including obstetrics, ophthalmic applications and human exercise physiology.

Finally, I evaluated the feasibility of an acquisition of a US medical instrument manufacturer that produces impedance plethysmography measurement systems.

As the average age of the senior citizen population increases, the incidence of blood vessel problems becomes more critical. The cost of end-stage vascular disease is extremely high.  It is therefore important to detect and manage blood vessel pathology at its earliest possible stage.

INSECT CONTROL in GRAIN
MACULAR DEGENERATION
MALARIA PROGRAM

COMPLETED

The project’s goal was to develop a cost-effective, high-power microwave system to control or eliminate insects in stored grain products.

PENDING

An integrated R&D program design to improve diagnostic methods in ophthalmological care of macular degeneration patients.

PENDING

A project to develop an integrated technology platform to address certain aspects of the malaria problem.

My involvement was as executive consultant to the electrical engineer research principal, helping both to develop the company’s business model and to discuss the technology’s commercialization with key agri-business interests.

Between 1/4-1/3 of the world grain crop is lost each year during storage, much due to insect attack. In addition, grain which is not lost is severely reduced in quality by insect damage.   Resulting research showed that treatment of an infested product at a frequency of 28 GHz in a dynamic procedure showed great promise, with completely controlling adults and larvae at low product temperatures of 36, 44, and 55 degrees Celsius. Exposure times for this procedure were less than 1 second.

As a consultant to a humanitarian fund, I am presently involved in structuring an R&D program consisting of three components:

–an Artificial Intelligence system with an early detection capability;

–a remote diagnostic monitoring system;

–cellular regeneration of damaged macula.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness and visual disability in patients over 60 years of age in Europe and North America.Worldwide, AMD is the third leading cause of blindness, behind cataract and glaucoma, causing 8.7% of all legal blindness. About 10 million Americans suffer some degree of vision loss by AMD, and that figure is expected to grow as more baby boomers become senior citizens. There is currently no direct cure for the disease.

Our efforts are focused on a multiple technology program consisting of: early diagnostic devices, a nano-needle delivery patch for vaccines, and a proprietary insect eradication technology.

Malaria killed around 450,000 in 2019, the vast majority among children and babies in sub-Saharan Africa. The blood stage of the parasite’s life cycle begins when it invades human red blood cells, and it is this stage that is responsible for malaria illnesses and deaths. Scientists have been working for decades on trying to develop an effective vaccine against the disease, but this has proved particularly tricky because the parasites’ antigens – the target of vaccines – tend to be genetically too diverse, and because bacteria and viruses can adjust their molecular surface which vaccines are designed to target, thereby “disguising” themselves to avoid antibodies.

MEDICAL DATA SECURITY
MINERAL WATER PROJECT
NOSOCOMIAL DISINFECTION

CURRENT

The EyeScripts SaaS protocols stand as an effective solution to vision care's most knotty problem: prescription verification.

COMPLETED

Served as project consultant to a Canadian High Net Worth investor concerning capital investment into a water bottling operation at Wroclaw, Poland.

CURRENT

I am currently designing a low-cost, energy-efficient commercial-scale laundry system capable of measurable reduction in or complete elimination of nosocomial pathogens from hospital linens.

EyeScripts is a patented SaaS prescription management platform designed and built to issue and verify contact lens and spectacle prescriptions instantly, in full compliance with the Federal law (FCLCA), HIPAA and other relevant Federal, State and local laws, whilst enhancing consumer abilities to purchase these medical devices easily and at competitive prices.

Prescription release and verification is a knotty problem in the vision care space.
Currently, it can take hours or even days for retailers to verify a contact lens prescription with the issuing doctor; sales are consequently slowed.   The consequence of FCLCA non-compliance was underscored in 2022 by a $3.5M fine levied by the FTC and DOJ against Hubble Contacts and Vision Path, Inc.,  for their failure to  comply with this Federal law.

The EyeScripts system resolves these disruptions by its seamless integration of the principle parties in a secure Cloud-based system. Moreover, because it captures data at Rx issuance, release and fulfillment, EyeScripts can achieve a 360-degree view of the market.  This ability can substantially improve efficiencies for ECPs, retailers, and manufacturers, all while improving consumer purchasing and patient safety.

I am presently designing a low-cost, energy-efficient commercial-scale laundry system capable of measurable reduction in or complete elimination of nosocomial pathogens from hospital linens, thereby addressing the health risks posed by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Soiled hospital linen constitutes one of the largest concentrations of microbial contamination in the hospital environment. Research indicates that many of the bacteria found in hospital infections are the same as are found in bed sheets, and these can contribute to the spread of nosocomial pathologies and infections.  Inadequate care and laundering may be the source for many instances of nosocomial cross-infection throughout a care facility. Current laundering protocols–a painstaking process including stages of cleansing, dilution of disinfecting chemicals, and water temperature–lack techniques that empirically verify pathogen destruction. Moreover, standard laundering techniques can be affected by human error.

NOVEL ANTIBIOTICS
REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
(SNAKE) ANTE-VENOM PROGRAM

PENDING

We are presently evaluating R&D efforts regarding naturally occurring peptide antibiotics both from mast stem cells (in hybrid stripe bass) and from cartilage from sharks.

PENDING

We seek to advance regenerative medicine for specific applications including edentulism, cleft lip & palate, decubitus ulcers, spinal cord injury and other conditions.

PENDING

Currently, I am evaluating several R&D programs and technologies that could produce snake anti-venom in a clinical setting and at volume.

A host of bacteria and viruses invade the human body, causing a range of mild to life-threatening illnesses and diseases. The standard approach to human immunology is the creation of antibiotics that are designed to target individual strains of pathogens. However, as the pathogens mutate (generally by restructuring their surface amino acid footprints), they can escape this antibody targeting and succeed in self-regeneration within the human body.

There is some evidence that mast cells may play a role in innate immunity, a response not directed at specific disease, but many diseases. Heretofore, the precise role of mast cells have played in host defense has been uncertain, though natural peptide antibiotics (produced by many microorganisms, plants, invertebrates and vertebrates) can kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria and other pathogens.

Regenerative medicine or “tissue engineering” deals with the process of replacing or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function. Novel regenerative medicine research is being conducted at several prominent corporate and academic institutions that we believe holds great promise for resolution of a range of human maladies. Of particular interest are those efforts that do not rely on human embryonic stem cells as the basis for their technology approaches. We are also keenly interested in the development of smart bandages and ultrasound technologies to treat and rapidly heal chronic wounds.

To confront chronic serum shortages in critical high-risk areas, several research groups are engaged in efforts to develop more effective techniques to produce anti-venom in laboratory and at quantity. In the Netherlands, for example, researchers have created venom-producing glands from the Cape Coral Snake and eight other snake species in the lab, using stem cells. The toxins produced by the miniature 3-D replicas of snake glands are all but identical to the snake’s venom.

Traditional methods of producing anti-venom remain virtually unchanged for a century. It involves milking snake venom by hand, then injecting small doses of the extracted venom into horses or other animals in order to evoke an immune response. The animal’s blood is then drawn and purified to obtain antibodies that act against the venom.

Producing anti-venom in this way can get messy and is inherently dangerous. Moreover, the process is error prone, laborious and the finished serum can result in serious side effects.

SPECIALTY STEEL PIPING
SPINAL CORD REPAIR
TUNGSTEN CARBIDE PROJECT

COMPLETED

This project involved a unique flexible, high pressure-high temperature piping to replace existing aging conduit infrastructure at key locations in Canada and the U.S.

PENDING

Our objective is a patient fund for a unique, proprietary surgical procedure intended to re-establish electrical signals around spinal cord occlusions.

COMPLETED

A powder metallurgy facility at Longyan, Fujian Province, China, wanted to upgrade its product line to meet Western standards.

I worked with a distributorship of a unique flexible, high pressure-high temperature piping on its program to replace existing aging conduit infrastructure at key locations in Canada and the U.S.

Pipelines are generally regarded as safe, but critics blame insufficient oversight and old pipes for the hundreds of accidents that occur every year. The 2.5 million miles of America’s pipelines suffer hundreds of leaks and ruptures every year, costing lives and money. As existing lines grow older, the risk of accidents on those lines will only increase. Moreover, as demands for oil and gas increase in the United States and Canada, a commensurate increase in new pipelines and upgrading of existing lines will run apace as well. Our agency promoted sales of this piping, which was produced via a proprietary extrusion process that yielded flexible pipes capable of withstanding tremendous heat and pressure without pipe failure.

Though capable of producing a range of tungsten carbide products (including burrs, blanks, bits and others), the facility needed new equipment at reasonable cost to manufacture at global market standards.

My work centered on locating and negotiating purchase of the necessary machinery and equipment well-within budget. In addition, I negotiated a compensation trade package that featured a 5-year/50% price discount which floated against world prices for finished tungsten carbide products.

TYPE 1 DIABETES
VISION CARE
WATER-from-AIR SYSTEMS

PENDING

Our team seeks to advance R&D development of a novel autoimmune therapy having potential as a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and other autoimmune diseases.

PENDING

This is a humanitarian fund outreach to manufacture and distribute self-adjusting eye glasses within developing nations.

CURRENT

My focus is on the purchase and deployment of water-from-air extraction systems for select locations.

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys certain cells in the pancreas, an organ about the size of a hand that is located behind the lower part of the stomach. These “beta cells” are contained, along with other types of cells, within small islands of endocrine cells called the pancreatic islets. Beta cells normally produce insulin, a hormone that helps the body move the glucose contained in food into cells throughout the body, which use it for energy. But when beta cells are destroyed, no insulin can be produced, and the glucose stays in the blood instead. Serious damage to all the organ systems of the body may result. For this reason, people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin in order to stay alive.

We are presently sponsoring manufacture and distribution within developing nations of special eyeglass types whose designs enable the wearer to self-adjust optical powers for vision correction, thereby reducing or eliminating the need of access to Eye Care Professionals for simple vision correction problems.

For over one billion people in the developing world, spectacles are a distant dream. Access to eye care is almost non-existent in sub-Saharan Africa, and highly limited in other parts of the developing world. It is beyond the reach of hundreds of millions of the world’s growing urban poor. A lack of proper eyesight has direct effects for those affected by it: a reduction in productivity at work, a closing-off of new opportunities, a reduction in quality of life, a possible deterioration in general health and possibly preventable blindness.

This project is focused on several proprietary water extraction systems for select placement internationally, Presently, systems are to be placed in Cambodia,  Israel, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Zaire.

Some 842 000 people are estimated to die each year from diarrhea as a result of unsafe drinking-water, poor sanitation, and improper hand hygiene. Where water is not readily available, people may decide hand washing is not a priority, thereby adding to the likelihood of diarrhea and other diseases.

Yet diarrhea is largely preventable, and the deaths of 361,000 children aged under 5 years could be avoided each year if these risk factors were addressed.

Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. Diarrhea is the most widely known disease linked to contaminated food and water but there are other hazards. Almost 240 million people are affected by schistosomiasis – an acute and chronic disease caused by parasitic worms contracted through exposure to infested water.
